Chilika Dhaba takes its name from the tremendously famous Chilika Lake, which is close to the dhaba. 2. DHABA End Dee’s SAMAROH

The menu is  elaborated and economical. Kadhi Pakoda, Lachcha Paratha and Chana Masala are an absolute delight here. 7. Giani Da Dhaba

Where: Kalka-Shimla Highway, Dharampur, Himachal Pradesh

Shimla and Kasauli have always been among the top road trip destinations for wanderers from both Delhi and Chandigarh. A couple of hours before Shimla, on Kalka-Shimla Highway, lies this gem of a place which is a favorite for many. This place is more of a restaurant than a dhaba and it stays closed during the night. For all of you wondering, Kathiyawadi cuisine is different from the regular Gujarati cuisine in its abundant use of spices. If you are in Kolkata and want some authentic Punjabi food, then Azad Hind Dhaba is the ultimate place for you. This dhaba was opened to immortalize the sacrifice of freedom fighters and it has been the favorite of many since then. Cheetal Grand is a must-stop place for numerous travelers traveling to Dehradun, Haridwar and Rishikesh from Delhi. This place is more of a restaurant but the food preparation is completely like that of a dhaba. Murthal has been the hub of highway dhabas on the significant NH 1 or Grand Trunk Road for many years.  Pahalwan Dhaba is another place from Murthal that stands out from other places. The best from the menu is its North Indian cuisine and all the different kinds of Parathas that go perfect with a hot cup of Chai. What’s more? The mound of fresh pure white butter in a bowl that accompanies the Parathas is a speciality from North India.

13. Lucky Vaishno Dhaba

Where: Grand Trunk Road, Jalandhar, Punjab

Lucky Vaishno Dhaba is serving the travelers of Grand Trunk Road for many decades. It was only frequented by truck drivers before the turn of the century, but the dhaba has come a long way since then. It has also included air-conditioned seating apart from outdoor seating of a dhaba. This place is completely vegetarian and specializes in all kinds of Indian flatbread, including Missi Roti, Lachcha Paratha and Tandoori Roti. All of these Parathas and Rotis come with a mound of delicious white butter.

14. Karnal Haveli

Where: Grand Trunk Road, Karnal, Haryana

 

Designed like a traditional haveli, both from the inside and the outside, Karnal Haveli is attracting travelers and inclining them to park their vehicles outside the place since its inception. It is not really a dhaba but it is a sure hit among the highway eateries of the country. Though, there are many such havelis on the Grand Trunk Road, Karnal Haveli stands out for being one of the oldest and the finest.

15. Satara Highway Dhaba

Where: NH 4, Satara, Maharashtra

Satara Highway Dhaba on Pune-Bangalore Highway is something that you have never before heard of. The dhaba is owned and run by a transgender and the team of cooks and waiters also include many transgenders. Excellent hospitality, flavorsome food, economical menu and prominent location makes this dhaba one of the best in the country. While visiting this place, Capsicum Masala is a must-try.
