Long Weekends in 2019: The Holiday Calendar

It’s never too early to start planning your travel; more so for road trips so you get more days for the fun on the road and few more days where ever the roads take you! We have some bad news though; there just aren’t enough extended weekends in 2018! Unlike the previous years, this year you will need to take some leaves to make the most of your vacation and long weekends in 2019. Having a good boss will do you a whole lot of good for sneaking time to travel from your work! So, lets not stall you guys and take you to our list of holidays and long weekends in 2019 in India – The 2019 long weekend calendar!

Let’s start with the new years celebrations!

2019 Long weekend calendar : December 2018 – January 2019

It’s time to start planning a new year road trip but with the blessings of a lenient boss! You might have to take two leaves for this trip to happen. While places like Goa are always on the list, you might also want to try heading to the hills of North East for peace and solitude. Club your leaves with the long weekends in 2019 to get more days for rejuvenation.

1. January 2019 Long Weekend Calendar

12th January – Saturday
13th January – Sunday
14th January – Monday – Pongal / Sankaranti / Bhogi (Restricted Holiday)

Unlike the previous years, Republic Day this year falls on a Saturday making it a normal weekend. But if you are from Haryana, 25th is a Chotu Ram Jayanti making it a long weekend in 2019 but only for those in Haryana! But the guys who will have it best are from Tamil Nadu. This is one of the longest weekends in 2019 – all for Tamil Nadu!

For those in Tamil Nadu Only

12th January – Saturday
13th January – Sunday
14th January – Monday – Holiday
15th January – Take Leave
16th January – Wednesday – State Holiday in Tamil Nadu
17th January – Thursday – State Holiday in Tamil Nadu
18th January – Friday – Take Leave

For those in Haryana only

26th January – Republic Day – Saturday
27th January – Sunday

January is a good time to plan your road trips to Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh amongst others in the 2019 long weekend calendar!


It is also the right time to experience the snow in the Himalayas. In fact, it’s getting popular with adventure enthusiasts too who want to bash some snow on their bikes and four wheel drive cars. 2. February 2019 Long weekends

For those in Sikkim

2nd February – Saturday

4th February – Take Leave
5th February – Tamang / Tibetan New Year (Sikkim only)

For those in Maharashtra, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Punjab

16th February – Saturday
17th February – Sunday
18th February – Monday – Take Leave 
19th February – Tuesday – Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti (Maharashtra Only) and Guru Ravidas Jayanti (Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab)


This would be a good time to go to Rann of Kutch. Winters are also a good time for Rajasthan or to go to the lost world of Chopta to make one of the epic holidays in 2019 in India!

3. March Long weekends in 2019

4th March – Monday – Maha Shivratri (Holiday in most Indian states)

21st March – Thursday – Holi

April is sweltering hot but is a good time to head to the coastal part of Maharashtra. This is also when the Olive Ridley turtles start hatching.


Try the hill stations up north, or hill stations down south  for respite from the sweltering heat!

If you are from Kerala, it doesn’t get better than this. So make the most of this time with a long road trip to Spiti. You deserve it! Monsoon can also bring out some of the best colors of heritage sites; which would be a good time to visit them too.

The weekend of 7th,8th and 9th would be a good time for the Ashtavinayak Yatra in Maharashtra. The crowds at temples would also be less considering deities would either be at home or visarjan (immersion) process would be on.

And for the rest of us, we have a four day weekend if we wish make a road trip out of it!

December is the ideal time to go to places like Rajasthan or maybe places like Sariska Tiger Reserve, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.
