Post by prakash.takate » Fri Jan 05, 2018 8:03 pm

Antur Fort:-
This is second biggest fort in Aurangabad District Situated in Jungles Of "Gautala Wildlife Sanctuary"..Gautala, 72 km from Aurangabad is a bowl shaped hilly terrain with sprawling deciduous forests. There is a sanctuary spread over 269 sq. km. in Kannad & Chalisgaon tehsils of Aurangabad and Jalgoan district. Located on the Satmala hills, the sanctuary presents a picturesque panoramic view. The interiors of the jungle are impenetrable. Gautalas repute as one of the most enchanting picnic spots that has grown over the past few years. Gautala’s rapid waterfalls are a special attraction.
The Antur fort is a 15th century construction that stands on the spur of a hill. Interestingly, this fort has not seen any battles in its many centuries of existence. But this fact does not take away anything from Antur. This is one construction that towers tall over the surrounding areas. The Antur fort was named after a Maratha Chief who built it. The fort remained in the possession of his descendants for more than a century. Eventually it passed on to the Mughal rulers like so many other forts in India.
