Site Maintenance & Improvement thread

Post by earthian » Sat Nov 25, 2017 2:58 pm

The purpose of this thread, apart from ensuring that yayawar and his team are gainfully employed  ; is to provide a place where anyone experiencing site related problems or having a suggestion for improvement, can post. Continuous and relevant feedback from all members would go a long way to make the site an enjoyable place to hang about; which is what we all want.

So here goes:

I am logged in today ie: 25th Nov, 2017 and it shows on the top right hand corner that my last visit to the site was on Nov 14, 2017. However, on the dashboard, my post on the thread 'Hello trippers' on Nov 18,2017 is mentioned. Obviously some tweak is required.
Edit: Unless you specifically 'log out', you are considered logged in, even if you close your browser. ( Have not checked if it applies, when you shut down your computer). So it shows the last time you had 'logged out'.

Thanks @earthian for highlighting this. Indeed this was happening with me too, albeit I didn't noticed. On investigation, I've found out that this is phpBB3.2 problem universally and a solution hasn't been provided by phpBB community as yet.

Hence I have changed the logic and code for capturing the last visit detail and now it would be captured and updated on every page visit if you are logged in. Hope your session status will also display correctly now.

EDIT: Indeed your EDIT is as it was happening. Not it stands changed. :)

Nope, Yayawar. Not yet. I had logged out and logged in today in the morning, but now it shows that i had last logged in on Nov 16, 2017. Maybe one more tweak, also factoring the time?:

Oh, so to actually put it right. Any change in phpBB setting comes into effect only after you have logged out and logged in again. So you'll have to log out once to see the change. ;)

@yayawar It would be nice to have a heading denoting the column description. I know that the columns having the numerals, denote number of posts and Read by, but still a heading would be welcome:

No column headings here

In the Forum page, the column titles are present:

I'm surprised!

Yes. This was an issue which I had noticed and fixed last week. Currently, whether In logged in or not, the headers are visiting le to me both on my laptop and mobile. Seems your browser has cached old files. Would suggest you to clear the browser cache by hitting Ctrl+F5 keys simultaneously while the page is open.

Thanks for highlighting this.. this is a function of UI.

Basically the distances mentioned against a point is the distance from the previous point. I'd agree it is not too evident and we need to change the UI to reflect that.
