Life on the fast tag lane!

Post by royalenfielder » Fri Mar 02, 2018 5:07 pm

So the fast tag came home finally ! I must say that the whole process was pretty simple and easy! All I had to do was logon to paytm and complete a form and upload a car RC. that's it, and it came home in a couple of days.

I'm really looking forward to trying this out on the highway. If you've used the fast tag and have some experience to narrate, do share it here! ImageImage

I guess @traveldiaries has experience of using Fastag and has even mentioned in one of the logs posted here.

Congratulation @royalenfielder

I have been using FASTag for some time now and have mixed feedback.

FASTag is very easy to fix on your windshield, just follow the instructions available with the tag. The best location is behind the inside rearview mirror. This location gets convenient in case the auto reader is not working and someone from toll collection center has to use a handheld reader. I was not aware of this and fixed the tag slightly left which creates confusion for the attendants some time :(
Since mine FASTag is from Paytm, so the deduction happens from wallet automatically.

I have used FASTag in the states of Rajasthan, UP & Bihar extensively. There are dedicated FASTag lanes but not well managed at every toll plazas.
There are dedicated lanes on Delhi-Chandigarh, Delhi-Bareilly, Delhi-Lucknow, Lucknow-Guwahati, Agra-Jaipur, Jaipur- Delhi stretches but at some plazas, you will find vehicles without tags in FASTag lanes and paying the toll by cash :).
At some plazas, the tag will be scanned but toll will not be deducted from the wallet and won't have the entry in the FASTag passbook too :P
At the managed plazas one can find attendant wit barrier to ensure vehicle with tag enters the lane.
Also at some plazas attendant scans through the handheld scanner in case, the auto reader is not available or working

At some toll plazas if we have going on line beside the FASTTAG line the money is getting deducted.

Somehow my earlier post has't got published. Doing again

So I made the first transaction last weekend on NH3 (Mumbai - Agra highway) when we were en route Igatpuri for the event at Mahindra Off Road Academy. While going they didn't deduct the toll but while returning they deducted the right amount of Rs. 105. Has anyone got cashback from paying via Fast Tag?

Hey @traveldiaries ,

I spoke too soon. They have charged me twice on FastTag, after having paid the toll in cash. For some reason I am getting an SMS very late. This has happened twice already and have ended paying around 270 odd bucks on the Mumbai expressway towards Pune

@traveldiaries @royalenfielder

i too have faced this issue multiple times as i said earlier too, when we are going in a line beside the FAST tag line and paying the amount in cash we have to maintain receipt of that till our trip completes. Because of the sensor that is present in FASTTAG line which can sense the FASTTAG which is another line and deduct the money.

If we raise a complaint and provide the receipt of cash payment in FASTTAG website , they will refund the money.

The bad thing is for every trip we have to maintain the receipts if we paid by cash.

Thanks for info @praveen.bondalapati ! Will keep this in mind.

One of the times, what had happened was I had passed through the fast tag lane smoothly. The next toll, for some reason the barrier did not open because I think their system had not captured that I had paid the toll. So I had to go into another lane and pay cash twice. So considering this, it has now happened thrice :(

UPDATE:

For those who are using a PayTM Fast tag it is absolutely mandatory that you have a good standing balance in the main wallet. I tried with around 1000 bucks in the wallet, and it worked like a charm in a trip I did - Mumbai - Nashik - Pune - Mumbai
