Road trip experience around Maharashtra from Hyderabad

Post by praveen.bondalapati » Tue Apr 10, 2018 12:37 pm

Hi All
Sharing my travel experience from Hyderabad to Maharashtra which will be helpful for travelers.<br/>

Trip Itenary:

Day 1 :Hyderabad to Ajanta
Day 2 : Ajanta visit and move to Aurangabad
Day 3 : Aurangabad
Day 4 : Shiridi and then Lonavala
Day 5 : Lonavala
Day 6: Lonavala to pune
Day 7 : Pune
Day 8 : Back to Hyderabad

Day 1: Our trip started from Hyderabad to Ajanta , we have started early morning 6:00 AM to reach Ajanta by evening where we have taken Nizamabad route .

Road conditions : Road conditions are horrible , till Nizamabad the roads are good but once after crossing Nizamabad the roads are hell (ROAD WORKS are in progress.) .

When we are on the way to ajanta we have visited Rajur Ganapati temple located in Rajur , from here Ajanta is 70 kilometers. the temple is constructed with marble which is awesome.
@prakash.takate for suggesting this temple.

After visiting rajur we have started our journey to Ajanta and by 6:30 PM we have reached Ajanta where we have booked HOTEL VIEW POINT .

The hotel is clean and located beside the road and we can get a good food there it self , but it is pure veg .

Day 2:
Started by 9:00 AM to reach Ajanta by 9:30 AM which is 15 KM away from hotel , but because of a accident on GHAT road the traffic was stopped for almost 3 hours , we reached the Ajanta caves by 12:30 PM .
From there we have to take maharastra bus to reach caves (ONLY MEANS OF TRANSPORT from parking to Ajanta) , it was too sunny but the caves are awesome and it is very cool too inside the caves.

Restaurant at Ajanta caves : There is MTDC hotel at Ajanta caves where we can get food.

we have started our trek to caves at 1:30 PM and the painting are awesome in caves where most of the paintings are not clear, PLEASE get torch there to see the paintings. we have returned back by 5:30 and completed our food at MTDC and started back to Aurangabad.

Tip: DON'T buy anything at caves they are costly, when you return back to PARKING there we have multiple shops where we can get for 20 RS where at caves they will sell for 600 RS.

There is a event going (IJTEMA) on at this time in Aurangabad where lakhs of muslims are gathered in Aurangabad, really we have to appreciate their co-ordination they are distributing water packets and food along the highway to the people who are coming to the event .

@prakash.takate thanks for helping on the route and the good restaurant in Aurangabad.

Day 3:
Booked room through OYO in hotel Admiral suites , it was very good for stay with family and food is good.
Me and my friend woke up early and came onto the road there we found a small tiffin wala where he makes a nice tiffin. By 10:00 AM we have reached MINI TAJMAHAL (bibi ka maqbara) , and by 11 we have completed seeing mini tajmahal and started our journey to Ajanta. We reached Ajanta by 12:00 and started exploration of Caves , here we have seen a cave opposite too the entrance and we have hired a guide for 600 (no bargaining at all). He explained about the images on the temple (Ramayana and Mahabharata sculptures are carved there), after that because of high sun iam not able to go to another caves. My friend visited the remaining caves and we ate lunch at MTDC hotel.

Aurangabad i tried to eat the aurangabad ICONIC dish (Naan Khaliya) and prakash.takate helped me to find the hotel but because of the event at that time the dish is not getting prepared,(because of the IJETMA event the food is not available.) but we had a good food.

@prakash.takate will visit some time for this food.

Day 4 :

Started from Aurangabad to Shiridi which is a hectic ride because of the event all the traffic is moving out of aurangabad , struck in traffic for an hour have taken another route and we reach Shiridi by 10:30 AM.

When we enter into Shiridi there will be some people where they will provide parking near the temple with 50/- charge , but the thing is they will take us to a shop(these guys have dealing with the shop guys and they will charge more for the items which we will offer to god ) near by and they will ask us to buy the items which is tooo costly better ignore buying items there.

By 2:00 PM we are done at shiridi and we have started to Lonavala which took almost 4 hours from Shiridi because of the road conditons.

Day 5: Lonavala

Stayed in Upperdeck resort where the views are awesome , if you are going in rainy season or winter season opt this resort. the way which leads to the resort is bit tricky there wont be any lights and it will be like a forest path . we are worried with the way.

Day 6: Pune

Checked into OYO rooms in viman nagar and completed our lunch and vistied Narayanpur venkateswara swamy temple, on the way back from temple visited Datta mandir .

Day 7: Pune
Roamed with in the city , no more energy to start home so stayed there .

Day 8:
Back to Hyderabad.

Roads are horrible , from pune to solapur roads are good but after that for next 150 KM the roads are horrible.

Thanks for all the valuable tips about Ajanta caves @praveen.bondalapati! It's good to have some one come to Maharashtra all the way from Hyderabad and give such a detailed account of the experience at Ajanta!

Interestingly, @prakash.takate helped me too when I went to Ajanta last year with my wife on bike. But it was a monsoon trip.

Do also share information nuggets about your journey beyond Aurangabad

Day 4 : Shiridi and then Lonavala
Day 5 : Lonavala
Day 6: Lonavala to pune
Day 7 : Pune
Day 8 : Back to Hyderabad

Pictures would be icing on the cake! :)
