1. Sabarmati Ashram

Sabarmati Ashram is an homage to Mahatma Gandhi, the father of our nation. It is located on the banks of the Sabarmati River, and the entire area has an air of serenity. Mahatma Gandhi originally set it up in 1915 after he moved back to India from his life in South Africa as a lawyer.

Here, you can walk around the main building and look at his life, decisions, and choices with all successes and attempts laid out for all to see. It has beautiful pictures and artifacts from that era, as well as his personal belongings like his khadi chakra, and trademark round glasses. Everything is very poignantly and informatively written. 2. Jama Masjid

Jama Masjid is a heritage structure that was built in 1423-24. Situated on the Mahatma Gandhi Road near Bhadra Fort in Ahmedabad, the Jama Masjid is a work of art. The masjid is made from yellow sandstone, which is believed to be sourced from broken down Hindu temples.

It is one of the finest examples of architecture in India today, with 260 intricately carved pillars. This also has free entry. It is definitely one of the places you should visit when you visit Ahmedabad.

3. Bhadra Fort

Bhadra Fort was built in 1411 during the reign of the Maratha Empire. It used to be a royal fort, so it is just as beautiful and lush as you would expect it to be. The fort contains a royal palace, an immense courtyard and a temple dedicated to Bhadra Kali. It is believed that the kingdom was personally blessed by Goddess Lakshmi. Rumors are that there is immense wealth stashed away somewhere on the premises.

The fort was renovated in 2014 and is now listed as a heritage property managed by the Archeological Survey of India. This is definitely one of the places to see in Ahmedabad. Free entry.

4. Swaminarayan Temple

One of the first Swaminarayan temples all over India, this is another example of wonderful architecture where you can observe immense attention to detail. The temple depicts Indian tradition and fills you with a feeling of awe. It is a not just a temple, but a cultural site. It has beautiful carvings all around, each one done exquisitely well. Again a great place for clicking pictures and gaining a few moments of peace. You should surely set aside some time to visit this breathtaking structure when you explore Ahmedabad.

5. Kankaria Lake and Zoo

Kankaria Lake is the largest lake in Ahmedabad. Friends and family groups frequently visit this lake as a much-loved picnic spot. Weekends drive a huge turnout at the lake. The adjoining areas have been developed into an all-in-one entertainment zone. This includes a zoo, a water park with many rides, food stalls, and for kids – a kid’s city, play zone, and a toy train.
