Gujarat is a popular destination state from the nearby states of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan. However, if you live further away, you can start your road trip from most cities in the state. All cities are well-connected to the rest of the country through flights and trains. The common starting points of Gujarat road trips are Ahmedabad, Rajkot, and Surat.

Ahmedabad
The capital city is surrounded by some of the best places to visit in Gujarat. Admire the intricate carvings at the Adalaj Stepwell, spend time delving into Gandhiji’s life at the Sarbarmati Ashram or just take a walk near the many lakes. The city is one of the family-friendly tourist places in Gujarat, with its local museums and grand temples. Also don’t forget to try out the local Gujarati Farsan and shop at Law Garden. Patan
The fortified historic town of Patan is a great road trip destination from Ahmedabad. The city has been one of the must-visit tourist places in Gujarat because of the many monuments, especially the stepwell, Rani ki Vav. If you love sarees, you must buy the Patola Saree here, the traditional Gujarati wedding saree. The place has gained a lot of prominence as a historical place to visit in Gujarat as being deemed a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2014.
Porbandar
The birthplace of the Father of the Nation, Porbandar is a coastal town of Gujarat. The place is an ideal night stop when you are traveling between the nearby more popular tourist places in Gujarat. There are two things you must do in the city. Visit the Kirti Mandir, the memorial dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi’s life. Watch the sunset on the Porbandar beach, a thin strip of sand with a walking promenade and benches.
Dwarka
The magical city of Dwarka is one of the most ancient cities of India. It is situated at the mouth of Gulf of Kutch and is a famous Hindu pilgrimage site in Gujarat, India. The city is believed to have been Lord Krishna’s home and boasts of the beautiful Dwarkadhish Temple. This age-old temple is amongst the popular religious places to visit in Gujarat and is thronged by devotees. You must also visit the nearby Jagat temple, Rukmini Devi temple and especially the Bet Dwarka Temple, in the middle of a lake. Don’t forget to check out the Dwarka Lighthouse (40 m high), overlooking the magnificent Arabian Sea.
Somnath
The Somnath Temple is one of the important religious places to visit in Gujarat and in fact, in India. It is the first amongst the twelve jyotirlingas (shrines) of Lord Shiva. The Jyotirlingas are the supreme reality out of which Lord Shiva appears partly, he appeared as a fiery column of light in Somnath. The temple and its location next to the sea is spectacular and makes it a much-visited tourist places in Gujarat. You can spend quiet time with your loved ones, listening to the waves crashing on the rocks.
Gir Forest National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary
Gir Wildlife Sanctuary is must always feature in your list of places to visit in Gujarat Road Trip. It is the only wildlife sanctuary in India to boast of the Asiatic lion. It is a fantastic destination for ecotourism, a wildlife photographer’s and nature lover’s delight. Commonly seen here are the Indian leopard, Golden jackal, Striped hyena, Chital, Sambar, Chinkara and Blackbucks.
