Bundelkhand, much like its name sounds, is an age-old, strength-filled region that can be found in the central regions of India. The place is famous for its apt geographical location as well as for being a symbol of cultural heritage in the country. Another factor that Bundelkhand is most popular for is its ever-lasting mountain range.

The Bundelkhand region is divided between the states of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, however, a larger portion of the region lies in Madhya Pradesh. Bundelkhand is also rich in terms of history.

Historic Importance

As can be recalled, the glorious Khangar dynasty essentially ruled the majority of the Bundelkhand regions. They had taken over the hilly areas by overthrowing Chandelas. Among the most popular rulers of the place was Maharaja Khet Singh Khangar, the founder of the Khangar kingdom. Their main capital of Khangar kingdom is Garh Kundar. They chose their seat of power as Garh Kundar, which is also popular due to its large fort. The fort was constructed by Khub Singh Khangar. Locals are aware of it even today that Khub Singh Khangar is the grandson of Maharaja Khet Singh Khangar. When the Khangar dynasty was ruling over Bundelkhand, the name of the place was actually Jujhauti. Not a lot of people are aware but Jujhauti actually means the land of warriors. The region essentially derived its name from Bundela, who succeeded the Khangar Rajputs as rulers of the region back in the mid-14th century.

Importance of Bundelkhand

Among the most important cities in Bundelkhand was the large city of Jhansi. It represents a rich cultural heritage. The place is quite developed in terms of today’s time, as it pushes education, transport, and economy forward. Bundelkhand is home to many other cities as well. The list is never-ending. Among the other well-known places of Bundelkhand includes Khajuraho. The main reason why Khajuraho is immensely popular is that it is home to several 10th-century sculptures. These sculptures were historically known to represent fine living and eroticism. There are many mines across Panna that have been scouring diamonds in a great deal. A very large lot was recently dug out of the fort of Kalinjar.
