1. Gangtok

The capital of Sikkim is a city that you must, must visit. While most people visiting Sikkim do go to Gangtok, they often just make a night halt on the way to North Sikkim. However, Gangtok itself has loads to offer in terms of natural and cultural beauty. Since it is the biggest city in the state, it is the best for souvenir shopping besides shopping for great-quality winterwear. You must stock up on coats, jackets and blazers in Sikkim. MG Road in Sikkim is a long road which houses chic boutiques, cosy cafes and welcoming bakeries that you can explore.

Gangtok also has several viewpoints for you to devour gorgeous views of the hills! The ropeway in Gangtok is a must-do for experiential travellers. Since most of the Inner Line Permits are issued here, it is advisable to spend at least a couple of days in Gangtok.

2. Lachen

Lachung is a piece of untouched beauty that envelops you in its arms.

If you’re visiting Lachung, you must also head to Katao for magnificent views and some downtime with snow! Yumthang Valley, which is more known and popular with tourists, is also worth visiting, although the road leading to it might be shut due to weather conditions. Nonetheless, engaging in snow fights near Yumthang Valley is always possible!

4. Tsomgo Lake

One of the highlights of your road trip to Sikkim has to be a visit to Tsomgo Lake. A beautiful lake at a height of over 3500 metres, this is a visual delight. Since a visit to this lake means you will be setting foot in very cold weather, be prepared and layer up carefully. You will also spot yaks near the lake and those wishing to enjoy a Yak ride can do it too!

5. Nathu La

If you’re going on a road trip to Sikkim, especially North Sikkim, why not go all the way to Indo-China border? Nathu La is a pass that connects Sikkim to Tibet. If you’re heading to Nathu La, you must rent jackets and boots, as Nathu La experiences sub zero temperatures. As you reach Nathu La, you will see Indian soldiers protecting the border with utmost diligence and at that spot, you experience the beauty of the mountains alongwith the patriotism of the Indian army.
