Charminar
Topping the list of Hyderabad points of interest is Charminar (1591) an artistic and marvelous icon located in the heart of the city. When Quli Qutb Shah shifted capital from Golconda to Hyderabad was when the beautiful majestic structure was built. It got its name owing to its four minarets representing the four Khalifas of Islam. The mosque lies on the banks of Musi River.
The highlight being its lip smacking Hyderabadi biryani, the Irani Chai (tea), and Mirch ka Salan, Double ka Meetha and Haleem. The crowded marketplace is a shopper’s paradise to shop the famous Hyderabadi pearls, semi-precious stones, jewelry, silverware, saris and colorful bangles.
Tips: Charminar is located nearby the Bus Station. Auto rickshaw or taxi/cab is best suited for local transport.
Ramoji Film City
A very popular hangout place and one of the most famous tourist places in Hyderabad is Ramoji Film City (1966) a perfect weekend holiday getaway that showcases cinematic themes. As per Guinness World Records it is certified as the world’s largest Film Studio one of the most visited film cities in India.
The city tours, adventure sports, garden tours and toy trains excited the tourists. You can indulge by visiting the sets of royal courts and other filmed locations based on inspirations from the world over.
Tips: Make sure you have an entire day to yourself to do justice to this awe-inspiring city.
Hussain Sagar Lake
One of the famous tourist places in Hyderabad to hangout with friends and family is Hussain Sagar Lake (1563). During the rule of Ibrahim Quli Qutb Shah the lake was built and it is known for its monolith of Lord Buddha added much later (1993).
It is also known as ‘Tank Bund’ with a 3km dam wall that connects the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. Due to its unique heart shape the
UNWTO declares the Hussain Sagar Lake as the ‘Heart of the World‘ owing to its unique heart – shaped outline.
Tips: Travelers who visit the lake indulge in water sports, boat rides and fishing.
Chowmahalla Palace
One of the most historically rich places to visit in Hyderabad is the splendid monument Chowmahalla Palace. It was once considered the seat of the Asaf Jahi dynasty and the official residence of the Nizam’s of Hyderabad. It was built between 1857-1869.
The heir of Nizam Barkat Ali Khan Mukarram Jah still has rights to the property. Palace was awarded UNESCO’s Asia Pacific Merit Award (2010)
Tourists love to participate in the famous heritage walks through the old Hyderabad organized from the Palace regularly.
Tips: Don’t miss annual Chowmahalla Music and Dance Festival with performances like the Qawallis and mesmerizing dance performances.
Papi Kondalu
One of the top tourist places in Hyderabad is the Papi Kondalu a hill in the Khamman district and one of the most visited tourist attractions in the area.
It is the place where vegetation and wildlife is in abundance spreading across three districts. Papi Kondalu wildlife sanctuary houses panthers, tigers, hyenas, antelopes, jackals, various kinds of birds and spotted deer.
Tips: Kids travelling the hills can also indulge in a boat ride on the river surrounded by lush green hills and clear blue skies.
Golkonda Fort
One of the most magnificent places to visit in Hyderabad is Golkonda Fort (4.8 km long). The most outstanding feature is that if you stand at a particular place at the entrance to the dome ad clap your hands, you can easily her its sound a km away at the hilltop pavilion.
It’s majestic halls, drawbridges, stables, mounted canons and magazines hold great tourist attraction. Some of the precious gems found in the mines of the fort are Koo-i-noor, Darya-i-noor, The Hope Diamond and the Idol’s Eye.

Laad Bazaar
Laad Bazaar also called Choodi (Bangle) Bazaar is one of the oldest places to visit in Hyderabad is the. Laad is lacquer, which makes bangles. The market is famous for printed saris, stone studded artificial jewelry using ruby and panna.
Adding to that, the market dates back to the time when the wife (Ladli Begum) of the king of Hyderabad Mir Mehboob Ali Khan ruled the region.
Tips: If you want to shop zari saris this is the place.
Mecca Masjid
Mecca Masjid is one of the oldest places to visit in Hyderabad. Muhammad Quli Qutub shah commissioned the shrine in 1614 – 1694. Furthermore, the soil from the Holy Land of Mecca is used for the arch over the main sanctum hence the name ‘Makkah Masjid’.
The Masjid has a capacity to accommodate 10,000 people in its imposing façade and a very renowned pilgrimage.
Tips: The Masjid has banned entry for non-Muslim folks.
