Gus Pegel is a true story teller. While the book holds true to it’s name and is indeed about a crazy road trip all the way from Australia to Germany; there is so much that happens in those pages it’s unputdownable!
The story chronicles the adventures and even misadventures of three characters including the 15 year old Gus Pegel. I like the fact that he wrote so much about his experience in India and those are also some of the most fun times they seem to have had. Gus has the tendency to get into some technicals of the 4×4 but that’s quite alright. Anyone who has been on the road that long on a single vehicle starts knowing more about it like a mother knows her baby.
You might want to know more about this 4×4 which was probably a really good off roader in those times.
From crossing the vast expanse of the Australian outback to Perth in Western Australia, where they caught a container ship and sailed via Singapore to Sri Lanka and India to reaching Europe by overland criss-crossing to Pakistan and all the way to Europe via Turkey and what was then Yugoslavia; this book has infinite moments for you remember and pass them off as your little stories:)
The book is definitely not a tourist guide and not meant to be so. I wish the Kindle version had a map to go with so I could plot all that Gus did; but that’s left to your map plotting skills. Maybe soon enough we would have launched for global markets and Gus could plot his entire route out on ScoutMyTrip too!
Enough of the marketing plug; but this is a road trip book which definitely makes the cut into my list of top 20 in the genre with the likes of “Don’t ask any old bloke for directions” by PG Tenzing. Gus Pegel is a marvelous story teller of our times.
Would recommend you head to Amazon and pick up a copy for yourself! Know more about Gus and this trip with videos and many more pictures here!
