Saputara literally means “adobe of serpents”. Saputara is situated in the Sahyadri Range and is the only hill station in Gujarat. The name Saputara comes from a snake image on the banks of river Sarpanaga who was worshipped locally by the Adivasis. At about 2,952 ft from the ground, the charming views, serene aura and the interesting things to do in Saputara attract many tourists. Saputara Museum
Saputara is mostly a tribal area and mostly consists of Dangs, a local tribe. A visit to the Museum is great things do in Saputara for you, especially if the lifestyle of these tribes interests you. The museum has conserved the lifestyle, costumes, and heritage of the tribal Dangs carefully for us to attend. The museum has tribal items like a stone funerary column, grass ornaments, stuffed birds, woodcarving, clay ritual objects, and body tattoos used masks on display.
Sunset Point
If you are up for the steep and exhausting climb to the top of the hill, you will be greeted by one of the most alluring sunsets you have ever seen. One of the most popular things to do in Saputara is the visit to Sunset Point. The sun slowly disappearing behind the meadows is a sight to behold. If you arrive a bit early, hop in for camel rides, horse rides. You can spend quality time with your family trying out the many exciting things to do in Saputara.
Step Garden
On your way to Sunset point, you will most likely come across the Step Garden. The Step Gardens is located 1.4 Km from Saputara and got its identity from its unique construction. The whole terrace is completely made of steps and situated on the tableland road. The garden is home to flowerpots, plants and beautiful wooden work crafted by locals themselves. But the garden centerpiece is the forest huts exceptionally made for tourist attraction.
However, if you want some peace and quiet, you must visit on the weekdays, because it is jam-packed by sightseers on the weekends. The park also has an open area for the kids to play around. This garden is open from March to April and July to August.
Gira Falls
Gira Falls is a beautiful waterfall, which is at a distance of a kilometer from Saputara-Waghai Road in the town of Waghai. These falls lie in a hilly region and are about 30 m high. Emerging from the Kapri Tributary, the falls drop into the Ambica River. There are many picnic huts in the vicinity of Gira Falls, along with various small tea and snack stalls. The apt time to visit this place is from June to November.
Nageshwar Mahadev Temple
Nageshwar Mahadev Temple is one of the holiest temples of Gujarat and is located along the coast of Saurashtra. This sacred temple is in the center of Bet Dwaraka and Dwaraka islands near Saputara. The main deity of the temple is Lord Shiva, in fact, the shrine of Lord Shiva is one of his 12 major Jyothirlingas. During Shivarathri, the temple is decorated beautifully and devotees come from far and wide to offer their prayers.
Lake Gardens
The garden, also known as Lake View Garden, mostly consists of rare species of trees and plants. The local authorities maintain it. The lake nearby creates a scenic and soothing environment that is very hard to replicate. The garden also has a playing ground and a sitting complex for kids and adults. One of the most enjoyable things to do in Saputara is to go for a picnic with friends and family. The garden is open from March to April and July to August.
The Ropeway
The Ropeway is a congregation of cable cars, connected through a rope, which travels at an altitude of around 25 to 30 ft. This service is on the way to the Sunset Point and enables tourists to move around the entire town. In fact, visitors can reach the Governor’s Hill in 15 minutes. It provides a bird’s eye view of the entire city. The cable car carries up to 12 people at one time. especially to tourist places like Sunset Point and Sunrise Point.
