by Shalini Mimani

Aching to travel but hate the idea of leaving your ‘furry’ friends behind. The whole idea may sound alien to a lot of you but only a ‘pet-parent’ can understand the emotions attached to caring for furry friends. In reality, looking out for pet-friendly destinations is still a task in India and not many hotels are ready to accommodate and host our ‘paw-some’ friends. So can a pet owner never indulge in pet-friendly travel?

Well, the good news is that pet-friendly travel is now possible in India in a few hotels and homestays. Thanks to these people, even our furry friends can now enjoy a vacation while the entire family is on the go!

Many tourist destinations now allow you to travel with pets. Moreover, these places allow full access to all common areas, services, and amenities for our ‘paw-some’ friends.

So let’s get going and acquaint you with 10 pet-friendly destinations in India.

1. Goa

Goa is a kaleidoscope of Indian and Portuguese cultures. The whole vibe of Goa is sweetened with sun, sea, sand, seafood, music, and spirituality. All in all, Goa can truly be hailed as India’s pocket-sized paradise.

To top it all, one of Goa’s glorious homestays is one of the few places in India that supports and encourages pet-friendly travel. The homestay, Arco Iris is a 200-year-old Goan house that has been restored to its full glory, complete with all amenities. The homestay overlooks a seasonal lake and is situated not very far from Margao.

Hire A Scout

The property is run as a venture of the Neemrana Group of Hotels. The homestay boasts of four bedrooms, three of which are equipped with private balconies. In fact, the hosts themselves are proud owners of a Labrador called Feni and a Beagle called Raffa.

2. Delhi

Delhi truly justifies the statement, ‘a journey back in time’! The whole city is a treasure trove with roots ranging back to the Mughal Empire. The rich heritage, the monuments, the fast pace of life and the bustling streets & back alleys, all define Delhi.

Amongst all this chaos, there is one place that lets you enjoy all this and more in peace. The Deer Park Villa is located in Safdarjang Enclave, one of the affluent areas in Delhi. The homestay is just a ten-minute walk from the sprawling Deer Park, hence making it a perfect spot for your furry friend to enjoy the outdoors. With six air-conditioned bedrooms and a sunny terrace on the rooftop, the place is perfect for relaxing.

3. Puducherry

Away from the hustle and bustle of big cities, Puducherry is a quaint little town on the southern coast of India. The distinctive French architecture, the tree-lined avenues, colonial heritage buildings, the never-ending stretches of virgin beaches is the striking feature.

The cherry on the top is the pet-friendly Dune Eco Village and Spa, an inspiring artist hotel. It is one of India’s top eco-friendly hotels and focuses on natural living and nature conservation. This magical property is just a 20-minute drive from the main town and is situated on 35 acres of beachfront land. The sprawling lands make this property one of the top choices while you travel with pets. The property also boasts of four in-house dogs that are uber friendly with the guests and other pets.
