7 Ways You can Celebrate World Tourism Day

by Sunaina Aiyappa

What is travel and tourism? To understand that first let’s try to understand why we travel? We travel for business, for adventure and sometimes just to break the monotony! When we travel, we are always on the lookout for a good destination. Once we find one, we explore the possibilities of a good hotel or places to see. Travel and tourism are two sides of the same coin! Tourism is nothing but the business of attracting more people to a particular place for the sake of travel. Infact, tourism is a major source of income for most countries.

Having said that, did you know there was a day dedicated to tourism? Yes, September 27th is World Tourism Day which is the largest event in the travel and tourism industry. But why is World Tourism Day celebrated?

Its purpose is to foster awareness among the global community about the importance of travel and tourism and the value attached to it socially, culturally, politically and economically. So, on this World Tourism Day let us celebrate it in one of the 5 ways:

Plan. Execute. Repeat!

1. Plan an impromptu trip with your friends or go solo

Being spontaneous only adds to the thrill of going on a trip. Ask around and probably browse through some of the travel and tourism websites online to get some ideas on how to go about with the plan. Better yet, come to us for ideas on where to go for weekends or seasonal destinations.

2. Make a travel book

travel journal

The best way to document your trips will be to make a travel book. Go through some travel and tourism blogs and you might get an idea as to how and what you want to include in your book. Start with segregating your pictures into folders (tripwise) and then move onto the notes part of it. By the end of it, you would’ve created a customized travel journal; probably giving major goals to travel and tourism sites.

Hire a Scout

3. Sponsor a trip

sponsor trip

Try to put aside the remaining money from your travels into a piggy bank at home and call it SPONSOR! Every year try and sponsor a trip for someone from that reserve. There are many travel and tourism sites online you could seek guidance from if you would like to make it happen. So waste no time and just take that step because travel only means discovering a new YOU. Who knows what your sponsored trip might do to the person you choose to send? Go ahead and book now!

4. Revise your bucket list

Travel to a new place, a place you’ve never been to before. Make a new bucket list and try striking them off whenever you get the chance to. Yet again, if you are clueless about what places are interesting enough to visit? You could check with people who are from the travel and tourism industry and ask for suggestions. The other option is that you Scout it out on your own!

5. The Human touch: Contact the locals

meet the locals

For avid travelers, one of the key things about their travel is to meet the locals. The information you receive from them is the best kind. No travel and tourism website will know what the locals do. Of course, your instincts need to play a huge role here because in some places the people may try to swindle knowing you’re an outsider.

6. Make a souvenir box

This one is a favourite among most travelers. Souvenirs don’t necessarily mean you go to a shop and pick up the famous collectibles of that particular place. It could also mean stuff like pebbles, tissue paper with branding, postcard, etc. These are things that are personal and whenever you do open your box, these things should remind you of all the good times you’ve had on that trip.

7. Up your music game

Travel playlist

Songs and scents are two among the many things that remind you of people, places, and events in your life. Do we agree to this? No travel and tourism company is going to want to suggest a playlist for you; it is you who needs to shuffle between tracks. What would really help is if you take a fresh set of songs for every trip. That way, every time you listen to it you will automatically be transported to your journey.

Finally, now that there is SO much to do on World Tourism Day, you have to start planning and executing at least one of these right away! To help you plan an itinerary, we at ScoutMyTrip are happy to help by offering you the best deals there possibly is. So, here’s wishing all of you a Happy World Tourism Day! Keep traveling.
